To anyone with banking experience, or specific knowledge of money....

If I have half of a hundred-dollar bill, but actually a fraction more of a bill - a $100 bill torn in a little more than half is what I mean - can I cash this in at a bank for a whole one?? Please tell me, if you know. If not, thanks anyway!

BTW, look at Ben Franklin's little pursed lips! What a Miss Priss!

Ap0k said that he has heard if you have OVER half of the bill your bank will replace it for you. It's worth a shot.

I think you’re screwed with the half a hundie… I don’t think a bank would ever take it, they will think your friend is down the street with the other half trying to do the same thing.

How did you end up with it ripped like that? It looks like someone was doing a classic “I’ll give you the other half when you finish …” thing? I just can’t imagine what that would have been though.

if you have over half of the bill (speaking from experience) the bank HAS to exchange it for you.

My bank gave me a whole bunch of crap about exchanging a $20 for me. My dog ate the other half. I went to the U.S. treasury site & pulled up their "damaged currency rules" & it clearly states that if the bill is in good condition & you have more than half that they do NOT want you to send it to them--that your local bank needs to process it. I printed this stuff out & took it with me. When the teller started arguing with me? I laid the sheets on the counter with the rules highlighted, she called their "head vault" person & verified that they needed to give me a new bill. :)
You are so not screwed. :)

The U.S. treasury will exchange damaged currency but they only want bills that have been like... burned & stuff.
