Delay Indicted for Criminal Conspiracy
I admit, though, I've heard the name many times before, I've never actually seen this man before. Doesn't he look just like a fucking scum-bucket?! He looks like he's made of PLASTIC! Middle-aged congressman Ken. Except uglier, and with terrible hair. Tom "The Hammer" DeLay. Explain this to me, if you can. The Hammer? What the fuck kind of game are we paying people to go to Washington, on our behalf, to represent us in Congress? This is a disgrace. See, this is the only way Republicans can win - they cheat! Cheat to win. And, make no mistake, the emphasis is always on winning. Another Hitler wanna-be.MOOD: usual SOUNDS: Everything is Everything - Lauryn Hill
The Bullshit Court
The Bush Machine is making the way down a list to hand-pick the next Supreme Court justice he will try to appoint. One candidate is his OWN FUCKING LAWYER from TEXAS! (Talk about a retard). He says he's considered people from all walks of life. The Court should - to be most effective and fair, AND JUDICIOUS, to the American people it serves - reflect the makeup of those people. Of course, there will be a rich, white, male as the Supreme Maharaja Chief Justice. I don't think there's any way around that at this point. Here is the totally WRONG (by any stretch of the imagination) sitch as it stands now: 8 white 1 afro-american (also white though) 7 men 2 women According to the US Census report for the year 2000, this should be the makeup of the Court. 7 whites (~78%) 1 afro-american (~11%) 1 hispanic (~11%) 5 women 4 men (the split b/n men and women is tight but still there are more women than men) Now get to working on it.
Public Service Announcement
From a non-public servant. Since the government can so often fail us, it's time for us to learn to protect ourselves. And, I am NOT advocating militias with that statement! Here's one thing they're doing to actually serve the people: The Federal Trade Commission amended the Fair Credit Reporting Act by requiring that the three nationwide consumer reporting agencies - Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union - provide to consumers, upon their request, a free copy of their credit report once every 12 months. Visit Annual credit report.comSpeaking of PSAs, here's something profound that I found in my bookmarks just now. I think it applies to so many areas in life, and it's a powerful message. The Federal Trade Commission amended the Fair Credit Reporting Act by requiring that the three nationwide consumer reporting agencies - Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union - provide to consumers, upon their request, a free copy of their credit report once every 12 months. In Connecticut, this legislation takes effect on September 1, 2005.
The three companies have set up a central Web site, toll-free number, and mailing address through which consumers can order their free credit report:

Rita & American Psycho
My family ended up evacuating their area for Hurricane Rita. 5 adults, 3 cats, in a one-bedroom apartment. I don't want to say anymore than that. Although, I will say that I got off rather lucky in the number of people I was housing, considering I counted about twelve adults and numerous children in a guy's apartment across the way. Other that, fortunately, my family don't have any damage they found on their return home. We lost electricity for a whole day, and my neighbors started to come visit one after another. My brother and I went to one's place to play cards and drink beer. I was called a man-hater more than once. It was all very done very jokingly. And, to that I say, yeah right. Although, I don't accept that label, I was hating my neighbor quite a bit at that point. I was also goaded into acting like a man-hater, which I'm sure was his underlying purpose. So, no good. Also, I won the long-lasting poker game, and was cheered on by the other woman at the table. As the man-hater that I am, I pulled out American Psycho and watched that today. How much do I love this movie? !!!!! The special features on the DVD, which I watched for the first time, are also really great. They delve into the psychological (and sociogical) satirical aspects that form the foundation of the film. I think the strongest statement of how closely this film rides alongside the.. hmmm, how should I put this... money-grubbing, "sucessful," white men, and all those who agree that the image of success on the surface is really where it's at... men were actually approaching the writer/actress and saying "That movie is so cool - I AM Ptrick Bateman!" Whereupon she called them a dork. They so totally missed the point, adapted it to fit their warped perspective, and plus, hello! WHO WOULD WANT TO BE THAT GUY?
You know that guy. MOOD: I only write in this thing when I'm annoyed or flumoxed (sp?), so. I am also very tired. SOUNDS: whirrrr
Back to "Normal"
Yeah. This says it all. I found myself embroiled in a game of "I never..." I've never played this game. Go on!
New Orleans
I've said several times already to people that I can't wait to move back to New Orleans. My question to myself is: why hadn't I moved back before? I guess my answer, to myself, would be that I was scared. Lots of bad things happened when I lived in New Orleans. I mean, lots. It's not the issue of living in a large city, but more the fact that I in the midst of finding myself and living my life. Sure, I contributed to some of the things that happened, but some were like a horrible bolt of lightning that was inescapable. My friend, Daphne, asked me: What so great ever happened to you in New Orleans? In relation to the terrible things that happened, I was left speechless. Quickly, I decided, well, I just won't go back. I'll look elsewhere to start my life over, again. But, when I truly think about it, and really I believe this isn't some kind of sympathetic response to the loss in New Orleans - when I think about it, maybe nothing so great happened to me there - I only graduated from college there, I had a long-term relationship there that is still my last relationship, I got my first real job - but more than anything, I was comfortable. If nothing else, I always felt completely comfortable. I'm from a much smaller town, lived there and grew up there, and even though we visited New Orleans, I was told that it was like Sin City. [continued later maybe, or maybe not. lately I'm just ambivalent about it all].Go on!

Philosophy
There once was this line of beauty products called Philosophy. I have no idea if it's still made but there is one bottle that's been hiding in my bags and I recently pulled it out and fell in love with it again. This particular bottle says: be somebody if you really want to be somebody, you don't have to be great, you only have to be good. good people live by the golden rule and in doing so they become somebody to everybody. so be good and be somebody.
No title
I'll post more later. Been very busy, with way too many things. Including, if you can believe it, mental health consultations (on the provider end, for a change) at the full-scale hospital set up in a gymnasium on the fly. Tomorrow it's off to walk the dogs that arrive on ambulances with new shelter patients survivors and hopefully some animals who have been rescued themselves. But, this is it for now.
Correction: Doom Still Here
Thanks to all who have expressed concern. I had a post here, but I think I accidentally erased it last night. Oh well. Electricity is still off-and-on here. Cable (TV and Internet) has been out almost the whole time. Off to watch TV and then go volunteer somewhere.
